Beautiful, bright and British born, Liv Boeree has achieved massive success in the poker arena and is one of the all-time most successful female players globally. Liv has made over $2 million in live tournament winnings and has also enjoyed successful stints as a model and TV presenter.
From astrophysics to the poker table Liv was born in Kent, England and after completing school she studied astrophysics at the University of Manchester and obtained a first-class degree. After playing casual poker games at university the poker bug really bit in 2005, when Liv took part in a UK-based poker reality TV program. Soon after, she became a regular host on a variety of different poker coverage shows and eventually decided presenting wasn't close enough to playing, and took a seat at the table herself.
It didn't take long for Liv's poker prowess to come to the fore and her first live cash was at the 2008 European Ladies Championship where she placed first and won $42,000. This win thrust her firmly into the spotlight and she followed it up with several impressive money finishes at events around the world. Highlights of Liv's career so far have included a top 40 finish at the WPT Main Event $25.000 World Poker Tour Championship and two final table games at the 2009 Las Vegas Five Star World Poker Classic.
Girl power at the top tournaments
Being a successful female poker player hasn't always been easy but in 2010 Liv finally got the recognition she deserved and confirmed her status as one of the best players ever produced by the UK. It was at the European Poker Tour in Italy at the Season 6 Sanremo event that Liv made her name in the annals of the stars when she sat down at the tables in one of the biggest poker events ever.
A field of 1,240 runners were in the game and it took several days of play for Liv to whittle them down to the final table and eventually walk away a winner, with the prestigious EPT title and a winning payout of $1,698,300. Liv also came within an inch of winning the UKIPT title in Edinburgh, but missed out on the winning spot and came in second with cash out of $97,058.
A formidable poker style
Liv has a steely determination that shows through in all her games and she has a very tight-aggressive tournament stance that holds her in good stead and keeps her game play steady and unwavering. She is very results driven and keeps the focus on her goal at all times, a trait that's worked well for her both in the real world and online.
Not content with just conquering the live poker arena, Liv Boeree has also become a formidable opponent online and won the Poker Stars Sunday warm up game in 2011, beating 4,710 players to the top spot and a winning payout of $147,780. She has subsequently become a member of this exclusive team and can regularly be seen playing online.
Liv is destined to go down in history as one of the biggest stars in the female poker world and she looks set to continue to add to her winnings and her titles in the years to come.
