Lingerie trends inspired by celebrity fashionistas

Whether you are a celebrity watcher or not, there is no denying the fact that celebrities lead the way when it comes to fashion. The clothing choice of one pop star or actor one day becomes the must wear fashion of the next.

The latest trend
The public has always copied celebrity style, even when such people were barely known as celebrities. Why? Because they look good in the clothes they wear and ordinary people want to look just as great.

The latest fashion trend to come out of the celebrity world is the wearing of underwear as outerwear. Rihanna, for example, was recently photographed wearing a silky nightdress, baseball boots and denim jacket to a football game in New York, and at another event, a lacy bustier and tailored black jacket. Some might argue that this is not a new trend, but a revival. Madonna first made the look famous when she appeared on stage and in videos wearing a vintage-style bustier with leather jacket and lace gloves. Other 80s icons that took on the look were Grace Jones and Courtney Love, and ordinary people soon began to copy their style.

Of course, some celebrities enter into the lingerie business quite deliberately, not as a fashion statement but as a business. 1970s tennis superstar Björn Borg is also famous for his men’s underwear range, as is soccer star, David Beckham. Recent additions to the underwear business include Beyoncé and Britney Spears, who has made her offerings truly personal by attaching a piece of her original poetry to each item of lingerie.

Thankfully, some of these celebrity ranges have realized that not all people are the same shape as them, and they cater for the fuller figure as well as those who have smaller frames. They also cater to style tastes, so if your taste veers towards vintage, you can get your hands on bras and panties that look the same as Marilyn Monroe or Ava Gardner might have worn. If you want something a little more modern and risqué, you will almost be spoilt for choice, as these Shirley of Hollywood lingerie deals prove.

As celebrities enter the lingerie market, main street stores are doing their best to keep up with the demand for lingerie by offering no-name underwear. Not everyone can afford a bra or bustier that has a celebrity name sewn into it, but thankfully the underwear as outerwear trend is easy to emulate with unbranded items. To get the look, all you need to do is match a pretty camisole top with a pencil skirt and high heels, or for an evening out, a figure-hugging nightdress with a clutch bag and heels, or for a more casual look, with pumps and a dainty cardigan.

However, it is a tricky style to pull off, and if baring your underwear is too daring a step for you, allow lingerie to inspire your clothes choices instead of defining them. This way you will be on-trend without committing a fashion faux pas.
